Yucatan has some magical fishing villages including Chelem and Chuburna. In these villages you will find good local shopping including fresh fruit, vegetables, fish and seafood. All locally caught or grown. Chelem and chuburna both have pharmacies and health centers. The large port town of Progreso, just 15 minutes from Chelem has 3 large supermarkets plus an excellent local market selling fresh fish, Meat, fruit and vegetables. Progreso also has a hospital, many banks, atms and an excellent variety of restaurants. Merida is a city of over 1 million people and its just a 30 minute drive from the beach villages. Here you will find 5 star hospitals and excellent dentists. All of your health requirements will be catered for very inexpensively. Merida also has many large supermarkets including Costco, Sams Club, Walmart etc. The historic Center of Merida is very beautiful with so many lovely Parks, restaurants, cafés and bars to enjoy in one of the worlds safest cites. The caribbean resorts of Cancun, Tulum and Puerto Morelos are an easy 4 hour drive away. Merida has an international airport and is just 45 minutes from Chelem. Cancun and now Tulum also have large International airports.
